About Me

My personal experience comes from many years working in the addiction and recovery field before becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist. I have been in recovery for 27 years (it’s one day at a time) and have discovered that I’m pretty good at helping folks in recovery.

What i do

Sometimes it can be hard to manage addiction and recovery issues, the struggle to “live life on life’s terms”, coming to terms that certain beliefs can lead to behaviors that get in the way of “healthy living.

Recovery & Addiction Counseling.

Individual Counseling.

This can also be your first time in therapy, faced with cultural barriers and family messages ” we tell a stranger/outsider about what goes on in this family. I can help by first holding a safe space for you to express yourself, to help you explore the challenges in your life.

MY WORKFLOW

With your goals for treatment, whether it’s your first time in treatment or your 10th time, we can prioritize which ones you wish to address and move forward. This usually starts with creating a safe space to discuss and understand symptoms, triggers, practice of current “survival coping skills,” and how you communicate your needs/wants to others. By developing your awareness of your patterns, then there is opportunity for choice. This can help with surmising how you feel your life has been interrupted and unhealthy for you. The importance of creating safety allows the ability to understanding how, when and why you “react” or respond” to people, places, and situations in your life

I will use worksheets, handouts, social media, TED Talks, podcasts, books, if we both feel it can be useful. I also use various grounding techniques to hopefully reduce reactivity before, during and after the session. My approach is to engage, mind, body, spirit in the healing process . I also encourage clients to bring in their cultural practices beliefs that have positive influences in your ability to heal.

  • Recovery is a big room for healthy living.

Starting your journey to your authentic self can be challenging and I can walk with you to explore healthier living. I want to understand how you move in the world and understand your struggles with addiction and recovery issues.
